i deleted my desktop!

i accidentally dragged my desktop icon from finder into the trash, and i forgot that it was there when i permanently deleted all of my trash items!!! now my desktop and all of the items that were on it are gone. How can i recover my desktop!!!??? or can i at all??

first stop using the hard disk in question. next find someone in the back of MacWorld/MacUser magazine who can recover files. save up a lot of money. send of HD, get spanked for 100s. expect about half the files to be corrupted...
You can try your hand at the feebie applications on versiontracker.com, but don't expect too much.

Summary: When I delete the desktop on my Mac G4 the finder quits before the rebuilding is complete. This also happened with my 9600 last month before upgrading...
