HP DraftPro DXL Plotter

Model/Manufacturer: iBook G3
Comment:
My husband has an HP DraftPro DXL Plotter that he was using with a MAC (not sure of the model or OS) and Graphsoft's MiniCad 6.
The cable connecting the plotter to the computer is a 25-pin serial to Mac 8-pin mini DIN cable.
The computer died.
A friend gave him an iBook G3 Clamshell with OS 9. This computer has a USB port and not much else that I can see.
Using a portable floppy drive I was able to load the MiniCad software onto the "new" computer and it seems to work fine.
The problem is how can we connect the plotter to this computer?
Is there such a thing as a 25-pin serial to USB cable? Do you think that is all he will need? Or will he need any extra software, driver, etc?
I am really hoping someone can help me with this since I can't seem to find a human being to talk to at HP.

It would appear that the Plotter is over 15years old and I would surmise not supported by HP.

As to a cable are you sure it is Serial not Parallel, though sometimes they have connections for both!

Does the Clamshell have a PCMCIA Card Slot ? if so it may be feasible to buy a Parallel or Serial Port Card. A USB Adaptor will not work AFAIK.

I found some info about your plotter here:

Hello,

I have the same plotter that i have used several years ago. I currently use G5, but kept my powerbook 3400 but unfortunately do not have the driver for draftpro for my mac.

Any suggestion how I can obtain this driver??

Thank you in advance.

Julia
