I need some drivers for a HP Cd-Writer
8210-E USB Burner, mac drivers... I assumed that since it was USB, it was automatically compatible, but since HP has no Mac drivers for it, i was wondering if someone here could help... Thanks!

Hey,
I recieved an answer. I guess all you need to know is if Toast by Adaptec is compatible with the drive. I'm not sure if it is yet or not, but it's a start.
Thanks

I've tried using Toast Deluxe 4.1 on a new iMac SE with this burner and it doesn't recognize it. I'm pretty sure that you need the drivers for the burner since it's USB, and the guy I spoke to at HP said that there could be third-party drivers out there somewhere. If anyone has a solution please let me know.

Probably, what we need is:
"USB-SCSI bridge for HP 8200series".
Who could make it?
HP? -No.
Apple? - No.
any o.e.m.? -No.
Where to find?

My solution was to buy the ADS Pyro firewire case, open up the HP8210e case, remove the bare drive from within it, and install it into the firewire case. Works like a charm now! Anyone need a spare HP usb case...?

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!!!

I have my 8210e(USB and allegedly unusable on Mac)working perfectly on my G4 under TOAST deluxe 4.2 (Direct CD refuses to work though!!)

Email me, and I will send you the files needed/info on how to do it--it's really quite straightforward, but took me days of searching/restarting/hacking around to get it done.
Your email is NOT gonna be used for any spam etc--I just thought this was the best way of reaching the masses!!

Cheers,

Mike

I did it to using toast 4.1 and updated it..
to 4.1.2..Works good now..But that's about
the only CD burning software I could find
of use to me.
I'll keep on looking and since I know HP
is watching this forum (they are the ones
sending me here) HP sux !!! How much
work can it be to make a Mac driver...I
gues they are afraid Mac users will find it
a lower standard product..
After all we're used to working with the
best ;)

I am very dissapointed, buying this HP CD-RW
because I tought can work with Mac because of the USB. In Future I don't think, I will get
HP products. There are so many other good products.

So, add my name to the list, and anyone who has advise, it would be appreciated. Please email me!

HP sent me advice that this site existed, Roxio (Toast) claim support for the HP family of USB writers includint he 8230e but don't actually support them at all. Thats got to be breaking some law? Its not really an HP fault as they build for the PC market and leave (as most manufacturers do) support to Roxio for both Windows and Mac platforms, however Roxio have dropped the ball on this one. But here is the deal, the HP drive is available everywhere and if they supported it they would sell more Toast, so why not write in support, it carn't be that hard?? HP needs to put some presure on Roxio to catch up.

A new version of Toast is out soon, perhaps it works?? In the meantime we hate HP and don't believe Roxio... Got to effect future purchasing!!

The Roxio compatibility database says that toast supports two different versions of the HP 8230e drive: the one with a 8250i drive and the other with a 8290 drive.
I think that the name of the used internal drive should be written somewhere on the underside of the drive.

Any Bad Tastes?

'Nitpick time... HP could improve on their
"User Guide" as this one didn't stack up
with those of other HP products we've
reviewed. More importantly, it would also
be a good thing if the data CD's you
create on the PC were somehow
comparable with the Mac format. As it is
you have to buy a $95.00 program to use
them on any Mac system. Other than that,
it was delicious.'
