how to wipe hard drive?

I tried to install a mac os 10.3 on the my g3, I recieved a message that the hard drive is full and I couldn't continue the install, I don't have the mac os 9 restore disk to clean the hard drive, and when I tried to use the driver utility to do wipe the hard drive clean, I can't because everything is grayed out so I can't chose anything, is there anything I can do without the restore disk. please help!!!!

Are you trying to replace OS9 with 10.3 or use both? You can use disk utility to either make a partition or wipe the hard drive. I would recommend backing up your computer if possible, it's always a smart choice.

I am trying to use only 10.3, the problem is when I go into disk utility everything is grayed out to where I can't choose anything, can I still do anything?

There are programs to do this for you, I use one often for windows, however i don't know any myself for Mac. You would also need a CD to put the program on if you found one. The windows hard drive utility I use is call Bootit, I don't know if they have a Mac version.

Summary: Tim, That sounds like the beginning of a Directory error. Your System Directory is like a library that holds information about every file, folder, Extension, Control Panel, document etc - onboard....
