How to recognize correct ram

I recently acquired two 512MB PC100 ram chips from a friend, and am trying to figure out whether or not they're compatible with my machine. I've got the ram in static free bags, but do not know who the manufacturer is. Is there a difference between ram used in "PCs" and ram used in a Mac? Is there a way to figure out if the ram's compatible based upon any of the numbers on the chips?

Difficult question to answer as one does not know which computer these two 512 MB DIMMs came out of - eg: what computer was your friend using?
If it was a PC (Windows Computer) - the answer is "no". One cannot swap Windows RAM with Mac RAM.
If your friend's comp was a G4 like your's, then the answer would be more of a yes.
The fastest way to tell would be to look at the shape of the RAM sticks - you should notice they are asymmetric - and then compare their shape with the RAM slots of your G4 - eg: are they the same width and do they sport the same slots in the same place?
