If I'm not mistaken, the windows text editor can open rich text format (RTF), which is what they are ..if images are included in the files then they're RTFD, but same applies.. You might have to use 'file' 'open' instead of double clicking on the file itself.. Since OSX first came out, all mac files have an file type extension now, same as windows..although it may also be hidden. Windows should just recognize it...
