I currently have OS9 and OSX installed on my mac and would like to know how to have the choice of OS at startup? I have read that I need to hold down the option can. What does that mean??

As long as you don't have a NEW Mac, right after the startup chime, press and hold the option key. If you have an Apple keyboard, it's the key right next to the Apple Key. It conviently is labled "option." Hold it until the OS choice screen comes up. It'll have two large arrow buttons along with your choice of operating systems (all the valid System Folders that it can find.) It takes a bit to load up, as a note.
Odd, mine says "alt" (iMac G3 400, UK). I had to learn that the Mac tradition seemed to be to refer to the "alt" key as the "Option" key. Always puzzled me though. Maybe there are regional differences?

Yah, that was my fault. My key IS labeled option, but it also, in a much smaller point, says alt. Actually, they could label the key "decaying watermelon," and if it let me choose my OS (along with the other things it does,) I wouldn't care.
