I used to only own PCs, and then I bought my first iMac less than a year ago. I love what it can do for me in the way of working with different types of media, and it's a lot faster and full of less bugs than any PC I've ever owned. But my problem is that I still have not figured out to simply burn files onto a cd or dvd using my Mac's superdrive. It's almost TOO fancy for me. I feel ignorant. I mean, am I missing something? Because I only have the iDVD program on my Mac for burning, but it includes all of these "themes," and I don't WANT to make a DVD to play in a regular DVD player with a cutesy theme. I just want to burn a 2.14GB Quicktime file of a slideshow I already created in iPhoto. I just want to put the file by itself onto a DVD, and there doesn't seem to be any way to do this. Can any savvy Mac users help me? I have a 2GB flash drive, but, alas, the file is just big enough that I can't fit it on there; or I would take it on there to work and burn it to DVD using a PC. But I shouldn't have to take it anywhere. You'd think that paying $2,500 for that machine, it would allow me to do what I needed to do. I've tried hitting the burn button from within iPhoto, and it leads me straight to that cursed iDVD program. Any suggestions for burning a file to DVD, so that it can played on either a Mac or a PC, or at least just on a PC?

This is a slideshow I made up of my time down in New Orleans helping out with disaster relief after Hurricane Katrina. I promised my coworkers I'd bring it in for them on DVD like two weeks ago, but I had to tell them I could never figure out how to get it off my computer. What a pain!

And even though I have a 2GB flash drive, I have tried exporting photos from iPhoto to it before, and for some reason, it will only put a handful of photos on the drive (which doesn't even come close to filling up half of the 2GB), and it will give me the message "unable to create volume." So then I end up going back and forth for hours to move my photos; and the reason for that leads back to the fact that I can't use my damned DVD drive to make a simple disc! Aargh!

And even if I wanted to use the iDVD program and use a theme, it's so convoluted that it doesn't lend itself easily to the novice user. I'm an advanced PC user, but obviously a moron with my Mac.

Sincerely,

A Frustrated and Impotent Mac User

After inserting and naming your blank disc, just drag your
files to the disc icon, and when your ready, select Burn
Disc under the file menu.
