Hi Janet,
I am quite new to the MAC OS but I have found GraphicConverter to be a good paint program. It can open over a hundred types of graphics files, JPEG being one of them. It is available to download from most shareware sites, eg, www.tucows.com

Quicktime's 'pictureviewer' app works well for this and many other file types. Quicktime itself will open them too. Also: Any web browser will open JPEG's, and "JPEG view" is a great app for viewing which has a slide-show feature that is pretty useful when thumbing through larger amounts of files.
You can also "insert" into ClarisWorks?AppleWorks. Try using a "Drawing" as you will then be able to play around with the picture (move it around and change the sc
