How do i set os x to 256 colors

How do i set os x to 256 colors, is this even possible, and also (less important) how do i set os x to 640X480 screen resolution? i am trying to run some old programs and it is a pain to start up into os 9

You don't. OS X doesn't support anything less than thousands.
640x480 works fine, but if the programs are so old they require 8-bit colour, you need to get a dedicated OS 9 box, because they're not going to work well in Classic either.

Yes you can ! I will tell you how ! Uou go in Pref sys in Moniteur and you on check the fist box and you can chage all the settings of you screen and your colour

Under "Displays" in the system preferences, uncheck the box that says "Show modes recommended by display" and you should get some more options, including 640x480 and 256 colors. This works fine for me, but it might not for you depending on your monitor and video card.
