Ok, I have a windows computer(argggg) and a mac(ahhh) now on the win comp I can do a search for computers on the network and it finds my mac, Is there a similar way to do this on macs. My setup is broadband modem to D-Link DI-624 wireless router which is connected to my win comp via ethernet cable and then that same router connects to my mac via wireless airport extreme card. Is there a way to search for local computers with my mac.

I'm assuming you have OSX on your Mac. Are you trying to see the Windows machine? The thing about OSX is that by default it only looks for other Unix/OSX network machines plus Rendezvous (Universal Plug and Play on PC). So if you need to find non OSX Macs, you need to turn on Appletalk. That's done easily enough in the Appletalk tab in the Network preference pane. To see a Windows machine you'll likely need to turn on Samba (SMB). All you should have to do for this is turn on Windows file sharing in the File Sharing preferences and possibly change the Workgroup in your Directory Access app (/Applications/Utility/). Now if you go to Go->Connect to Server on the menu you should be able to see a listing for your Windows workgroup and/or the Macs you were looking for.

Not an expert at this but... The PC would need appletalk installed and perhaps some files and folders shared.
On the Mac I would open the Chooser (OS 9.2) and type in the IP address of the PC.

Not with OSX. It has Samba and can talk to PCs in the SMB protocol. With OS9, yeah, it'd either need Appletalk on the PC or some other methods (such as FTP) to transfer files. The only way to have Appletalk files shared on a PC is to have a server edition. Win2k has Appletalk for connecting to files and printers...but that support was removed in XP.
