I could use some help. I am currently a college design student working on a project for a company where I need to make a auto run CD-ROM that will work on Macs as well as PCs. I am not computer illiterate, I used my Powerbook G3, and a mixture of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and Quicktime Pro to create the piece. My only problem is that now that it is finished, I don't know how to make it automatically start up upon insertion, and I don't know what I should save it/convert it too, so that it can be viewed on most any computer. Thank you for any help you can give me!!

Basically, and I''m guessing here, you're
going to need to write an autorun script
for the Windows version (look at the
autorun script from any Windows CD
program that has an autorun script in it,
you'll know it when you see it, in a text
editor for an example. Do the same for
the Mac. Then, use something like Nero
that can burn Hybrid CDs. A demo of Nero
is available at www.ahead.de Look
through the wizards. I hope this helps.

To make a Windows autorun file use
Simpletext or Windows Notepad to create
a file named "autorun.inf"

The contents of this file should look like
this:

[autorun]
open=filename.exe
icon=filename.exe

I don't know how to do the same for a
Mac, but I'm searching for the same
answer. If you come across it, let me
know!

You need to burn your CD'S in a hybrid
format. Toast 5 Titanium let's you do that
easily.

I hope this helps.

If you wish to make an "autorun" CD for a Mac, you simply pick the autorun file in Toast (if you are burning it on a Mac).

I am guessing that you are making a custom hybrid disc. If that is the case, you can look under the "Select Mac..." button. From there you will see the "AutoStart" button. Once you check that box, it will let you pick the file or app you wish to autostart.

Piece of cake!

**NOTICE** The "autostart" feature will NOT work if the Mac has autostart features disabled (a good many do this since it helps prevent a few forms of old mac viruses). You can check to see if it is under the Quicktime control panel.

Good luck.
