i have an exstesive amount of knowlige about PC's but i dont know s--- about MAC's really...the MAC im talking about has 128MB RAM and finder takes up 55MB. how do i "squash" finder without damaging it...but at the same time giving me more free memory to run bigger programs and play games?
thank you

If you go into 'control panels/extensions
manager' and disable un-needed
extensions it may save you a few megs.
But you may lose functionality, or the
ability to use some apps or peripherals
entirely. You don't say WHAT mac or
WHAT operating system you are sporting
over there, but I will tell you that YES it is
good to run an efficient, non-bloated
system, and that will save you some
memory (not near as much as you think it
will, so don't plan on it really doing you the
good you think it will) and keep it running
a bit more sprightly, BUT the best
suggestion I or anyone will give you is to
pry open your wallet and buy some more
RAM.

thanx man...its just im used to windows and im able to free up memory on there like its nothing but mac is so different

Mac OS 9 and OS X are completely different. If you have a blue Apple symbol at the top left of the screen, you're running OS X. (Select "About this Mac" for version info.) If it's a rainbow-coloured Apple symbol, it's OS9 (or 8 if you're unlucky). (Actually, if your iMac has a flat screen on a chrome stalk, it will be OS X.)
I just bought 256MB for my iMac: it cost £45 including tax and postage (about $60).
