Any computer that I know of on the market today will automatically halt (i.e. turn off, rather than properly shut down) to prevent or minimize damage if they exceed their maximum operating temperature; but, their tech specs also all list a minimum temp, typically 10C or close to it. It can get very cold in some parts of a facility where I do a lot of work with computers. If a room is too cold, should I keep the computers in there shut down until I get the temp up? I'd rather not experiment, so does anyone know whether I can count on late-model computers to halt automatically if they cross below their minimum temp?
Also: a lower temperature is normally preferable for electronic devices. Are the minimums specified because of concerns about condensation?
