Easily done, but you'll ahev to partition the
disk to do it. If you don't have two partitons
already, then you'll have to initialize the
disk and partition it. Then you'll be able to
install 8.6 on one partition and 9 on the
other and be able to boot from either. The
drawback to this is, if you don't already
have two partitions, you must initialize
and this will erase your hard drive. Always
a good idea when you get a new
machine, before anything else, initialize
the disk and partition then.

If you have two hard drives, you don't have to
partition anything or initialize, although a clean
install is always a great starting point. Just put
one OS/system folder in each drive and choose
your next session's OS by selecting the
appropriate drive in your startup disk control
panel. Or follow the partition instructions above
for all three OSs. You can also get away with no
partition by using two system folders and
renaming one something besides "system folder"
so the machine doesn't get confused. Be careful
with that idea though, as it could really confuse
some installers looking for the right places to put
things, etc. Great for quickie tests of OS
compatibility with new applications though.

Yes! you can have any OS in any partition. Just do a CLean System install. The old system will be renamed. If you require to boot from other system all you have to do is to move the New SYstem Finder out of the System Folder or to a temp folder inside System Folder itself. Go to the old System Folder, double click to open to activate it as the system folder to startup. But make sure the old System Folder show a SYSTEM iCon before restarting or else you will have a disk with Question mark. Now you can have dual OS without partitioning the Hard disk.

Or you can have partitions like what is mentioned above, Boot from the System Disk OS8.6, then use custom partitions. Install OS 8.6. Once done you can Boot up from OS9 and do the install for the other partition. To startup from either partition you need to set the Startup Disk from Apple Menu Control Panel.FOr Linux2000 you will need to partition the last partition as a Unallocatted. well..i think I end here for now.
