We are setting up a home network prior to getting DSL. We are trying to share the DSL with 3 computers - one of which is an iMac(OSx 10.1.5) the others being PC/WIndows with XP).
Does anyone know the kind of hardware/software I should get to set up such a network?
TIA

Get an RT314 4-port DSL router for 50 bucks on
Ebay and you're all set. Im sure youll find the
same instructions written all over this forum. Look
up previous postings.

My home network is currently a WinXP box hooked to a cable modem, with 2 ethernet cards and one HPNA card. One ethernet card is connected to the modem, one to my Dell Inspiron, and one to a 2000 box through HPNA, works fine with XP's bridging capabilites. My Inspiron is a dual boot Redhat/Win2k, both of which work with the network. At any rate I assume a mac would work fine in there too as Windows ICS is really just a little DHCP server. So if you don't want to spend the $ on a router a few ethernet cards and some crossover cables works. I am thinking about getting an iBook, so if anyone knows a reason it wouldn't fit into my weird little network let me know.

"A few ethernet cards and some crossover cables" cost as much as a router (saw some SMC 4-ports on sale for $39 recently) and require you to leave the Windoze box on 24/7, which is absolute hell on your electric bills.
I'd take the router.

I have a cable network with Mac 10.1 and WinXP computers sharing a Netgear RT314 gateway router.
This is the best way to go!!!
