Help with X Windows

I recently installed the X windows package on my iBook. I launched it and from the xterm window, did an 'xhost +' and then logged into my Linux machine which also runs X windows. After setting the DISPLAY param to point to the iBook, I tried to run xcalc. The app appeared to launch but the window didn't appear on the iBook. Going the reverse direction (linux box into the iBook) didn't work either. However, in that case, an error message appeared stating that app couldn't connect to an x server.
Is there some hidden config file or menu I need to adjust to enable the remote windows?
