Help with turning OFF HTML in Outlook E

I would like to be able to receive html emails as sourced plain text. HTML continually crashes my beloved iMac (a first weekend edition!). I have 8.6 and Outlook Express 5.02, and the evil empires' help page is regrettably not up and running. CAN ANYONE PLEASE tell me how to keep Outlook from opening HTML messages as HTML. My theory is that I can then just delete them, while still at least knowing who they are from (so that the 1 out of 100 that is of interest can just be opened in a browser, where it belongs). Your help is appreciated.

What •••MAY••• help is to launch OE, then to go to 'edit/preferences/display' and UNcheck 'show attached pictures in messages'. I think this will help stabilize your iMac when fighting the dark side of E-mail HTML.
