help need to reinstall everything

i bought my ibook g4 at an auction for a school disctrict and my laptop has information from the school district on it for which i want to erase, I just want to start fresh like if i bought a whole new computer and that im have been the only owner. should i remove hardware and install new one or what should i do i want to erase everything another problem that im having the date is january 1 1970 i try to clikc on the date but it wont let me i cant even highlight it i think the date.time key is locked. please help thankd you

Firstly, do you have any Mac OS discs? If you will need them to complete a re-install. Look on ebay for Panther or Tiger discs and then you will be able to perform a reinstall.
The date problem sounds like a battery issue - although not sure.

Yes, you need the install discs for ibook - the emac ones will not work.
