Comment:

I have an old MAC SE30 from college (over ten years ago). I've been draging it around with me all these years and finally wanted to go back and look at some file that I have on it. The problem is that I had Afterdark installed and when I start it up, the screen saver comes up immediately. After all of these years, of course I have no idea what the password might be. To complicate things, I no long have the keyboard, just the mouse. Also there is a problem with the floppy drive, so booting from there isn't an option (not that I have the boot disk anyway). Any chance I can get around this, or do I realy need a keyboard to try to us the shift key to get past the screen saver at startup. Any help would be appreciated.

get a k/b and hold down the shift key. THEN print out any files you will EVER need and get rid of that mac. Then....Get an imac!
You could try to copy the files to another mac via appletalk using the serial cable to network them. Either way..get rid of the SE and upgrade. You deserve it!

Jeff,

NO! Don't get rid of it! Give it to me! :-)
I collect em. Or donate it to some needy
person.

And Carl,

SE's use 800K Floppy's.. You'll need to
get some to copy files to it with floppys.
I had the same exact problem. Didn't
know about the format of the floppys..
Normal HD floppys will work but aren;t
recommended. You'll need to put tape
over the Left hole (The one WITHOUT the
lock) and reformat it as Mac 800K format.
Then copy files using that.
