I have a similar problem!

I am going bonkers! I have a new g4 powerbook. It
didn't come with the DVD player so I downloaded
3.1.1 (I saw that 3.2 exists but it is not
downloadable). I click on DVD player, I put the
movie cd I want to watch on it--nothing happens. I
fiddled around for hours last night because I don't
have a tv and this computer is my dvd player. So this
morning, I decided to see if the old os 9 system
would play the dvd, i booted up in 9 and it plays it
perfectly.  Why won't dvd player play this movie in
osx and, moreso, why won't it open?  My os is 10.2.6
thanks for any and all help--befoer i go bald.  Peace!

Copying the DVD to your hard drive without decyphering the DVD will prevent you from watching it. You have to decypher it first if you watch the movie from a copy of the DVD because of CSS encryption. Try using DVDBackup or OSEX for decyphering. Obviously you can only copy movies to your hard drive if you already own then because of all those copyright laws. ;)

Of course you may only copy commercial DVDs you already own because of all those copyright laws. ;)
