Comment: well i really fixed my 6100 good this time....first the odd video adapter i think had a loss connection cuz i had to hold it upwardes to get the colore to stay right on the screen and i was only able to get one res on the monetor that i know can go higher...i should be able to get 800x600 256 whith it so i downloaded and installed switchres and tryed to pick a res which crashed the program whin i tryed...so whin i rebooted all i got was a gray screen and no happy mac or welcom to macintosh screen or anything just that gray screen that thay apper on..i also hear the hard drive working but nothings on the screen...so did i damage the mac by fiddling whith the video socket or did the program do this or what...whanks for any help

Reply: (edit)check the battery (3.6v litium). If the battery is dead you will not get the video on this MAC (the same goes for 6100, 7100, 8100 series). You may hear the correct chime when you turn on the computer but no video. As far as the color concern you may have bad adapter cable or cracked solder joints on the mother board. You can get the new battery from Radioshack for $9.99. Cheers

Reply: (edit)yeah, John, my 6100 does the same. If you turn it on, wait, turn it off, and back on again it will automatically restart, and then boot normally. Replace the battery and all that will go away. ;-) no worries. -Gerald
