help! desktop folders disappeared

hi everybody i hope one of you will have a solution to this problem: all my desktop files and folders have disappeared, aside of the Macintosh HD, when i try to open one of the files from memory and to save a new file on the desktop i get a message saying that i don't have enough privileges to access the desktop. I have an G4 X 3.9. is it a virus? does anyone know how can i solve this? i will very much appreciate any help on the mater. thank you in advance.

....~i don't have enough privileges~ ...., seems like your in a guest user logon, try rebooting as primary user, and check settings, or boot without extensions on, to check if program is blocking access... :)

no vires on os 10, in the finder renam the destop to desktop old and then reboot, this will give u a new desktop, u have a bad file or to many files on your desktop
