Hello.
I have a Wallstreet G3-233mhz Powerbook with the original 2GB hard drive. I would like to upgrade to a larger drive but I cannot figure out how to transfer the system and my files on the new drive?
A friend of mine told me that there are products out there which allow a user to put the harddrive in a "case" and attach it to the Powerbook via the PCMCIA port and then copy information from the old drive to the new, after which the drives can be switched. Does something like this exist? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you in advance.Tony

Best thing to do if you have access to another Mac like I did is just to network the two, copy all the stuff you can't easily reinstall to the other Mac, put in the new hard drive, install an OS, and copy the stuff back over.
If you don't have access to another Mac, those PCMCIA-based drive kits (or expansion bay drive kits) are available from MCE (www.powerbook1.com) but they're pretty darn expensive, especially if all you're saving is a 2GB drive.
Another option is - if you have a desktop Mac that supports IDE - to get an adapter kit for a 2.5" IDE drive to work in a desktop Mac. Set it up as a slave drive, hook up the PowerBook in SCSI Disk Mode, and copy files over that way.
When you're done getting the files off the drive, or need help, e-mail me. I'm interested in the drive for other projects :)
