hard drive making chirping noise

I installed Jaguar on my G$. While filling out the registration information, my hard drive started making a chirping noise then the registration started all over again. After trying several times to get thru registration, I decided to use my restore disk. The restore won't complete and gives a message referencing a problem with the MAC harddrive. Has anyone experienced this before?

i have experienced this before...this is almost always a hardware problem. The only solution is to replace the hard drive. IDE Drives are very inexpensive these days.
good luck!

There is no other reason for a drive to make noise other than it's forewarned demise. I have seen drives that were so noisy you could hardly work on that mac, but they kept running for months and months. I have seen drives that were quiet as a mouse and then made noise for a day or two and then didn't even spin anymore. REPLACE THE DRIVE ASAP, and throw the old one away so you are not tempted to 'try it one more time' on yours or another machine. Once you pull the plug on it consider it a worthless hunk of crap and throw it away.
