Hi,

I have a dial up connection and some
security concerns. What are the best
programs to protect me from hackers?
This is a real concern since a friend of
mine was recently hacked.

Also please explain Trogan Horses?

Thanks,

T.Dave

See McAfee Virus Glossary, Symantec, www.whatis.com etc for definitions and virus info. A Trojan is a malicious program that looks innocent so that people will be tempted to run it. These are nearly always written for Windows computers, and if so can't affect Macs. It is possible for someone to write a Mac trojan, though I've never come across one. Macs just don't exist in large enough numbers to (a) be familiar to most hackers, and (b) allow viruses etc to spread.

Also a dial-up connection is less attractive to someone trying to access your computer remotely, as it is connected for less of the time and it's slow.

Someone could also in theory embed a malicious macro in a MS Office document, if you have MS Office and receive documents from other people. Again, I've never heard of one of these affecting a Mac but I wouldn't imagine it was impossible.

Mac OS X comes with a built-in firewall, which is an application that controls access to your computer through a network.
