Subject: Getting a boot disk for OS 7.2...
OS: 7.2?
CPU/Ram: Mac 7180 PowerPC
Comment:

I have recently acquired a Macintosh 7180 with a
varient of OS 7, probably OS 7.2 to the best I can
surmise. The computer was working when I had
acquired it however it froze when running an after
dark screen saver and I had to shut down the
computer using the power button on the rear of the
computer. That action was a last resort as the
keyboard and mouse were no longer responding,
even with the control, open apple, start command.
After that, when I have turned the computer I have
recieved a floppy with a question mark on it. From
what I have surmissed from reading other posts in
this forum and consulting a mac guru the computer
cannot find it's library directory.

Now, would starting the computer with a boot disk
solve the problem?

If so how would one obtain and make a boot disk?

Can an IBM formatted floppy with the OS7
information work? (I do not have access to another
working Mac with a floppy drive).

Is there an equilivent to bootdisk.com for Apples?

Will I require the proper OS7 boot cd rom?

How can I tell exactly what OS I have without being
able to go past the quesion mark floppy?

Thanks in Advance,

Okay, I see the page and I have a few questions.

The link to the apple FTP site was not working, file not found, is there another place that I can find that file?

Is there any reason that I can't transfer the necessary files to a CDRom and work on them from there?

Thanks,

Are there any sources for OS 8x boot disks.

I have installed basillik and have gone through all the possible OS 7 versions with no luck. I have also used from of the OS 8 versions on the web page with no luck yet.
