garbled screen on mac laptop

i wonder if my laptop can be fixed

it worked when i bought it used, and then later on ,the screen is all garbled and unreadable

garbled how? any pictures? if it's something like completely
white, then the inverter board is bad.. i have that PB (well, a
180, with a 160 screen, and since the 160 had the same
LCD, I should be able to help)..

Oh, if you are talking about white lines, and streaks, and a
"snowy" effect, that's actually normal. It's because that LCD
is "passive" matrix, and the manual to that PB does state so.

That was old technology back then. The LCDs didn't have a high enough refresh rate then, thus this effect happens. (this is extreme proof that LCDs DO infact have a refresh rate - and i learned this from an electronics engineer)

well its constant now so i guess the only thing to do is get a mac monitor and use that instead and use the laptop to learn about macs which i know nothing

well, your making it seem as if it's not the whitish lines, and
snowy graphic effect..

a picture would help though.. yours might NOT be this..

the video card has definitely gone. Money will solve all.

by the way, 'learning' mac from a 140 laptop does not
qualify! like learning to drive by getting a 1920's car.

You should have at least a G3 chip and OS 9 and OS X 10.3
installed on your HD to really get into present day mac.
unless you're setting up a museum!
