i wonder if my laptop can be fixed
it worked when i bought it used, and then later on ,the screen is all garbled and unreadable

garbled how? any pictures? if it's something like completely
white, then the inverter board is bad.. i have that PB (well, a
180, with a 160 screen, and since the 160 had the same
LCD, I should be able to help)..A+ Certified Professional

Oh, if you are talking about white lines, and streaks, and a
"snowy" effect, that's actually normal. It's because that LCD
is "passive" matrix, and the manual to that PB does state so.A+ Certified Professional

how can it be normal if i cant read it?

That was old technology back then. The LCDs didn't have a high enough refresh rate then, thus this effect happens. (this is extreme proof that LCDs DO infact have a refresh rate - and i learned this from an electronics engineer)

well its constant now so i guess the only thing to do is get a mac monitor and use that instead and use the laptop to learn about macs which i know nothing
????

well, your making it seem as if it's not the whitish lines, and
snowy graphic effect..a picture would help though.. yours might NOT be this..

the video card has definitely gone. Money will solve all.
by the way, 'learning' mac from a 140 laptop does not
qualify! like learning to drive by getting a 1920's car.You should have at least a G3 chip and OS 9 and OS X 10.3
installed on your HD to really get into present day mac.
unless you're setting up a museum!
