My Mac G4 won’t boot... (I have a feeling that I have 2 separate problems)

At first, it looked like it was just some stupid error. It almost boots fine from the HD, but right as it seems to finish, I get this error:

Sorry a system error occurred.
"Time Syncronizer"
error type 41

The only option is to reboot. However clicking the button only reboots about half the time, otherwise the screen goes black and nothing happens...

Ok, next step... I tried it with extensions off... it almost boots fine, but at the end I get this (slightly ironic) error:

Sorry a system error occurred.
error Type 41
To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold the shift key.

So, my next idea... Boot with the Norton CD... I hold the C key down... It still boots from the HD. This brings me to problem #2:

I’ve tried every system CD I could find, no CD will boot in this system... I’ve replaced the DVD drive with a CDrom... Unplugged the HD... Unplugged all peripherals, pulled out the SCSI card... Zapped the PRAM.... still nothing....

I just checked the lithium battery... It’s a 3.6v, but it read 5.4v when I first pulled it out... now (30min later) when tested, it reads almost nothing... Would a bad battery cause it not to boot from the CD?

I’m going to be bald soon... Please Help!!!!

The error type 41 indicates that the Finder file has
been damaged.

If this is the case, you can fix it by doing a Custom
Installation of the main system components of your
OS 9 Instal. CD

There is an Apple Article on that : http://
docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24431

Hope that helps...

It usually means Finder prefs are corrupt rather than damage to the Finder, though.
