I have a G4, OS9, 256MB RAM, used for graphics manipulation. I would like to add a cd burner(write 8 or 12). I dont want to use usb(too slow) Can I use firewire or do I have to buy a scsi card as i have no scsi connections in the back of my mac,I only have usb and firewire connections assuming firewire is ready to use.

I'd stay away from Firewire, too many problems posted. I use a Yamaha 8424 CD-RW on a G4 with an Adaptec SCSI card. Works great.

Hi Angela, if got a G4 500 for Grafikdesign and work with SCSI. SCSI is good for anykind of internal and external Burner Solutions, also good for use with all the PC-Burners wich is good for support and less expensive than special mac things. I use a Teac55CDR with an original PC Firmaware. Often the MAC Firmware Burners are about 50Bucks moreexpensive... Firewire is verygood for MAC use, too, as we use a few of them in the office! But the problem: its much more expensive than scsi or ide. For private use I would buy a cheap scsicard and try an external scsi solution... I hope it helped ;-))
