Subject: G3/10.2 boot problemsOS: 10.2 jaguarCPU/Ram: G3 384MB |
Comment: hey guys. i have a problem here. I own a g3 beige, with 384 ram, running 10.2. Everything works perfect until i installed a program (alchemy tv) to watch tv on my mac. When the installation was done, i rebooted the Mac and now i have a gray screen and cannot boot again in 10.2...well, i can't boot at all. I tried to boot with the Mac os 10.2 cd, holding the c key and nothing. I tried to reset pram (with command+option+p+r) and nothing, always the damn gray screen. The only thing i can do is starts with command+option+o+f and then i get the open firmware menu. I tried "reset-all" and teh mac reboots but i get the gray screen again.... What should i do? please help me Thank you so much in advance! Big hugs

Reply: (edit)If I'm not mistaken the G3 Beige had onboard video. Sounds like alchemy may have either toasted your card or put in some kext that prevents booting. Since you've already zapped the PRAM and started on OF mode you may have to reset your CUDA switch. If you aren't familiar with this I'd be careful and ask someone with experience to help you. It's a little red button inside the computer on the motherboard. It resets EVERYTHING, including your date/time to some obsecure date. It's commonly used when replacing the battery. Alternately, on some computers the C key did not force a startup from the CD. Try using apple option shift delete. I found this to work on my blue and white G3 to by-pass the internal hard drive and search for any available startup system. If you do get it to startup in X be sure to hold the shift key and startup in safe mode. Search and destroy any kext, apps and plists for the offending program. If it has an uninstall....use it. Hope this helps.
