Comment:

I have a PPC G3 with 96MB Ram that is having problems starting up. MAC OS is able to complete loading and it gets to the desktop where I can see the hard drive and trash can, but freezes up at that point. I tried double clicking the hard drive and trash can but nothing launches. The menus on the top also do not drop down when I click on it. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Can you start up with extensions disabled (hold down the
shift key on start up)? You can also try zapping the PRAM and
rebuilding the desktop.

If it doesn't freeze with extensions disabled, you've got an
extension conflict. If you've installed anything new lately try
disabling just the extensions that go with that item and see if
the freezing issue still exists.

Thanks, I'll try those suggestions you mentioned. What keys do I press to zap the PRAM and to rebuild the desktop?

To zap the PRAM hold the command+option+p+r keys on
startup until you hear 3 startup bongs then release the keys.

To rebuild the desktop hold the command+option keys on
startup.
