It depends on which one you have. There are two groups as far as RAM are concerned, the Tray loaders and the Slot loaders (which is concerning the CD-ROM drive. Tray Loaders have a tray that ejects and you put the CD on it. Slot Loaders simply have a slot where you push the CD into).

The original tray loading iMac's - Revision A, B (iMac 233), C (iMac 266) and D (iMac 333) are expandable to 384MB using two DIMM (1x 256MB + 1x 128MB).

All G3 iMacs after those however, called 'slot loaders' take upto 1GB using two 512MB SDRAM modules.

Hello Slim Vision.

Thanks for your answer.
I think my iMac is a "Tray loader", 'cause it
can eject the CDs/DVDs, automatically.
But I don't know if its "Tray loading" is the
original or, anyway, an its Revision (A,B,C
or D).
What I know, it's I had just one SDRAM
module of 64MB inside my iMac, 'til
yesterday, when I've installed another one
of 512MB (the PC133). The computer
works really, really better, now, obviously.
What I'd know,now, it's if I could replace
the SDRAM module of 64MB which was
already in, when I bought my iMac in the far
1999, with another one of 512MB.
If my iMac is a real "Tray loader" and
following your explanations, it seems
there's something of strange.

What do you think about that?
Will be possible, to do this replacement
between these two modules, for you?

Thanks, again.

When you put a CD/DVD into your iMac, do you just push it into a hole on the front? If so then it's a slot loader and thus, the answer is yes, you can replace the 64MB module with another 512MB to boost memory to 1GB.

Yes, ok. I've understood what you meant,
with the word "tray", now. Sorry, I had a
traslation problem (english isn't my
mother language).
Yes, my iMac is a "Slot loader".
Thanks a lot for your information.

Best wishes.

forget the above. go to www.mactracker.ca and download
the database for all Macs ever made. look up your model and
find out what it has inside.
