Subject: G3 ibook or G4 powerbook? OS: win xp home sp1 CPU/Ram: amd 1800+ 768 2100/2700

Comment: Hi Everyone, I'm a first time mac buyer - not too familiar with the differences between the G3 and G4 processors. I'm looking at buying a laptop and these two are in my price range: ibook g3/900 256mb/40gb 14.1tft combo drive os x powerbook g4/867 256mb/40gb 12.1tft combo drive os x I'll be using it for some photoshop 6 with wacom graphire tablet but mostly vector - freehand 10 and hopefully attract some ladies at the same time. So is the G4's extra $100 CDN and smaller screen worth any of the performance gains? Cheers, Stephen

Reply: (edit)The PowerBook can be hooked up to a regular-sized VGA monitor if you need to use a bigger screen at your home or office. And, since I own the PowerBook you ask about, I will say that it most definitely is the better buy. I actually went from a 15" TiPB to the 12" AlPB, and I don't regret it at all. I will say that a 15" TiPB, if you can afford it, might serve you better because of the increased RAM capacity and L3 cache. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the 12" (especially when compared with an iBook,) though. ----paxcirc.a-
