I have an upgraded Beige G3 with a stock internal Apple CD/DVD. The computer is upgraded with a Newer Technology G3 500 mHz, a 30 GB hard drive (partioned to 8 and 22 GB), a total 384 MB of RAM, a Orange Micro Firewire/USB2 card, an Asante 10/100 Ethernet Card and an ATI Radeon video card. I previously had OSX 10.1.5 on the computer and tried to update to OSX 10.2. The computer would not allow the internal CD/DVD drive to be recognized. This occurred despite removing all the PCI cards and the memory upgrade. It did not even help after I zapped the PRAM and reset the internal memory clock. I also tried XPostFacto 2.2.2 which did not work. I then reinstalled all the PCI cards and all the memory upgrades. Then with an external Apple 600i CD connected through the SCSI port, the OSX 10.2 software installed flawlessly. For some reason, the software would not recognized the internal Apple CD/DVD. This same internal Apple CD/DVD, however, would again recognize the OSX 10.1 CD and allow a reinstall, but would not work with OSX 10.2. Hope this will help some others, especially with PCI cards, hard drive updates and processor updates.
