I have a B&W G3 350. I am currently using
the stock video card and a video cable
that i brought from a computer shop. The
monitor is an apple multiple scan 15".
The problem is when i start up the
monitor does not turn on or respond. I
then restart the computer and the monitor
does respond. It is not the PRAM battery,
as they are a problem i have replaced my
old flat one. The monitor is not running off
a power cord that runs to the computer
but a power cord that leads to the power
point. Any assistance appreciated greatly
:-)

You may just need to power down the monitor, and power it
up (via the power switch) when you boot the mac. I am not
sure WHY some monitors behave this way, but I have seen
it before. Yes, it's a pain in the ass.

The problem is your RAM
the G3 goes through a RAM test and if the RAM does
not respond, then the computer wont let the monitor
start up. I had the same problem for months before I
figured it out and as soon as I replaced the RAM the
problem was fixed.
Another way to trick it with bad RAM is to start up
the computer and hold down the Option, apple, P,
and R(zap the PRAM) for a couple of seconds until
the monitor responds. (You dont have to zap the ram
just act like you are until the monitor reponds and it
will work.)
Replace the RAM as soon as you can because this
little trick wont work forever and eventually the
computer will crash every 15 minutes or so because
of the RAM problem.
Give it a shot
Hope it helps.Saverrio

I'd agree with that assessment if - and ONLY if - the problem has always been present.
Based on the fact that the same poster just opened another thread with RAM problems, I'm inclined to think the RAM is the culprit, as you guessed.
