Frustrating iTunes Problem

I've been using ITunes with my 60GB Ipod for quite some time with no problems. I recently purchased an external hard drive and transferred my ITunes library onto it and changed the location of the library in ITunes under preferences. Now, about 20% of my songs on ITunes do not connect with the library when I try to play them in ITunes. When I click on the song I get an exclamation point and a message telling me that ITunes cannot find the song and I have to go to the library and double click on each song to make the connection. Two questions please........... Why is this happening? Is there a simpler, more expedient way of doing this in a wholesale manner as opposed to song by song? I have almost 13,000 pieces of music in ITunes and I don't look forward to this tedious task. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Try repairing permissions on both drives. If this does not work, you will have to re-import the tunes on the new drive via itunes.
