You have a couple file-sharing clients from which
to choose. Try Acquisition and Limewire. These
and others can be found at MacUpdate.com

There's no such thing as "free" music. Somebody, somewhere paid for it. Downloading that music from others is no different than walking into a record store and swiping a CD off the shelf. Just my $.02.

Wycke,

Yes there is.
Lots of bands post 'that' music freely to
promote themselves, and there is an
awful lot of public domain music out there
that is beyond the protection of copyright
at this time.
As with most things, it is up to the end
user to make the decision to upload or
download what they know or think to be
copyrighted material.
Not every member of the 'Napster'
generation is merely an incarnation of a
guy in sunglasses and a trench coat
walking suspiciously through a record
store. Granted, it is prevalent, but you
can't condemn the technology or the
'good' people who use it in order to cast
wrath upon the ones who do wrong.

Unlike most people, the reason I download very little music and, instead, buy CDs is because of sound quality. Newer compression algorithms come closer to matching CD quality, but I'll take the full 1440kb/s any day.

And for what it's worth...
The availability of downladable music has NOT changed the way I purchase music. I will always support my favorite artists because I prefer to own the complete CD, including liner notes , cover artwork, and production/engineering info, photos & other credits. In fact, there have been many occassions where a downloaded "sample" prompted me to seek out and purchase even more material :-)
