Use the Drive setup program. Its usually in the applications folder, utilities folder. IF you dont have it, you may have to find it on the OS9 installation CD.
The mac os9 equivelent of a PC format is in the 'options' or advanced tab in drive setup - I cant remember what its called offhand, but it'a a button that when pressed has two options, zero all data, and 'do a low level format'. Can take a very long time tho, as it rebuilds the drive tables one sector at a time! It's usually not neccesary though, as 'erase disk' from the finder special menu works fine..all it does is erase the file information on the disk, but that's usually enough..it's still blank.
