Subject: Forgot passwordOS: Mac OS X 10.0.4CPU/Ram: N/A |
Comment: I have a user that forgot their login password on their os x machine. Is there any way around this??? Also they have OS 9 and X on the same partition, so if they boot into X we have to use a OS 9 disc to reset the start up control panel to boot from the OS 9 system folder. Is there any way to force it to boot from OS 9 on start up (holding down option dosen't work, you need seperate partitions for the systems). thanks guys

Reply: (edit)Bring up the terminal window and "su" into root passwd username where username is the signin name of the user. It will ask you to enter the new password. Set it to something the person will remember. When they log in, tell them to change there password, FIRST THING! This method works in Linux, and MANY of the commands are the same so hopefully this will work for you.

Reply: (edit)A follow-up to Jason's post. What he says is correct, except for one portion. At least on my system, sudo must be used instead of su. ----chri.s-
