Forgot my MAC password - now what?

Original Message

Subject: Forgot my MAC password - now what?
OS: OSX
CPU/Ram: I don't know / just over
Model/Manufacturer: Apple G4
Comment:

It took so long getting the Mac going again (the power company burned out the powr supply with high voltage) that I have since forgotten the password.

Or something. <g>

Unfortunately I don't have any CD's that go with the Mac. It came to me used - just the processor. G4 w/ OSX

I happily used it perfectly fine for a good while - until the power supply failed. A new one made the unit go again, but now it asks for a password. I don't remember ever needing one before though.

After a few tries it began to display: Password Hint: Water or Oil (? <g>) Whatever that might mean.

Now what can I do?

Any ideas?

This Mac makes me laugh - every time it refuses a password it 'shakes it's head: no' by moving the moonitor image left and right a few times. <g>

Thanks!

You need to find a bootable disk
somewhere and boot from it. Then you
can recover your password and/or
change it.

Unless someone else has access to the
computer when you are gone, there is
really no reason to password protect the
whole machine.
