Flat Panel iMac won't startup

Computer seems to go to sleep in the middle of playing a game in classic mode. The screen has remained black since then. When I startup the computer I get the startup sound and the light comes on but the screen remains black. I've tried zapping the PRAM, starting up from CD, and unhooking everything for ten minutes. I tried a different keyboard to test the keyboard. This all happened during the first few hours after receipt of the computer so I am probably shipping it back but wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. I called apple but they wanted me to deal with the reseller. I will talk to them on Monday since they are a M-F operation.

hopefully i'm wrong, but that sounds like what happened to my first iMac DV SE 400 mhz a year or so ago. exactly. except i had a clients iMovie on it. if it makes the start up noise, then the noise stops, and the screen remains black, ....look out. the logic board apparently burned up. dead. brought it in to the authorized guy here on Maui, and they replaced it under warranty. don't know why, it just burned up. my new iMac has been running for 1.5 years now, no trouble. good luck, i hope it's something else that you overlooked, and not what i am suggesting......
