I am in the process of buying a new G4 with either Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro 3 for my new venture in video editing. I have been using Premiere 6.5 on a PC and I would like to know if the Final Cut Express would be enough to do the job? is it on a comparison to Premiere or do I have to spend the extra $1500 and buy FCP3.I am making television commercials. What do you think?

If you're making TV commercials for a *living*, get Final Cut Pro.
Why?
Because it's a tax writeoff so you don't have to pay for it anyway.

Well, you DO have to pay for it. The taxman won't just take that cost off the top of your owed tax bill. You will be able to CLAIM it as an expense and get whatever benefit that aloows you, yes.
Just as a friend of mine tried to •convince• me that since your mortgage interest is tax deductible that means it doesn't matter if your interest rate is 4% or 40% because you get it *ALL* back anyway. What a rude awakening that was for him.

That said, 'p' is correct that you should invest in the proper tools if you are serious. And you should LEARN how to use that tool before you jump right in. Why not INVEST in a class to learn it first? You may not even like it.

Thanks for your input. Are you saying that Final Cut Express is not comparable to Premiere 6.5. With Premiere, I have been using plugins like Hollywood FX and Title Deko. From what I can gather, both the Final Cut programs would be on the same level and I wouldn't need the plugins. Is that right?

I would go to a FCP forum or video editing users forum to get specifics on that type of stuff.

if you are REALLY serious, get FCP4 and a 17 inch powerbook (need all that workspace) or if you don't need mobility, max out a powerPC, but go with Pro if you are SERIOUS
Summary: Here’s a procedure for installing Final Cut Pro 1 (FCP1) on OS X (FCP1 won't run unless you do the following because it doesn't want to run in OS X "Classic Environment") but keep in mind that upg...
