hi,
a few days ago my computer had an error fllowed by a bomb message.after restart the computer stopped responding.
after a few restarts i found out it stopped responding when the file sharing starts.so i quickly turned it off and the system was loaded with no problem.
after that i clicked start file sharing again (since i have to use the network). it connected with no problem.
now every time i turn off the computer the on again (not restart) this problem returns.
also if the computer gets stuck and i restart it the problem returns.
what can i do to fix it?
i tired to dump the "File Exchange Preferences" but i don't know if that has something to do with that. it didn't solve my problem.
can you help?thanks,
Michael

Hmmm..are you using TCP-IP as the protocol? ..if you open the 'file sharing control panel in 9.2.2 there's the option to select tcpip as the protocol- i don't know if 9.1 has this though..since you deleted your 'file sharing' prefs, you can't check on the old settings to tell me.However, I think it likely.
If so, open up control panels-tcpip preferences, and click the 'options' button - if you don't see it go to the edit menu, and select 'user mode' - pick 'advanced', and you should now have the 'options' buttoon.
After going into options make sure that 'connect only when needed' is DE-selected.
Exit and save..
Now when you start up the mac should make it's network connection first, before loading the desktop.
'Connect only when needed' is only for modems, really, so that your mac doesn't try to dial your modem every time you boot.
I can't guarantee this will fix your prob, but it just might..
You might also want to re-enter all your settings over again, if the previous suggestion doesn't help..first writing down any settings so you've got them safe (like network addresses etc.) and then deleting 'network prefs' (if you have that one, i can't recall if it's still used), tcpip prefs, and of course you've already tried the file sharing prefs..the thing is , crashes can corrupt prefs files, making them unable to save settngs.
If all else fails, you can always try replacing the file sharing extension with the one from the CD (check your not putting in an older one tho...) If you don't have the cd, the 9.2.1 update has some you could extract with tome viewer..(even applying the update could replace corrupted extensions -but-only as a last resort!! tho..it's NOT a recommended reason for applying an update!)
Hope something helpsObviously, i think i believe you think i said what you want to believe, but i think you didn't believe what i think i really said...
