I recently converted to using Macs because of their user
friendly features. I could use some advice on connecting
my LaserWriter Pro 630 to my IMAC G5. I tried using a
centronix to usb cable connection but it only shows "IEEE
1284-controller / Driver not installed" when I attempt to
add it to my printer list. What would be the most simplest
way to succeed at doing so? Please advise, thanks...MACS
RULE!!! even if I haven't got the printer going yet.

Thanks!

The specs show this printer has an Ethernet port, use that or
the LocalTalk port with an AsanteTalk converter.

centronics won't work.

from an apple tech
if your computer has atleast 512 megs of ram in it update to tiger 10.4, the driver is not listed in this, but the printer maker may have a driver made for that os, check their web site for eihter os. Don't connect using ethernet, thats not what that was made for. if the printer is more then 3 years old, then buy a new one, epson and hp are the easyest to work with macs
hopes this help

First run Classic (OS 9) on your G5 and see if you can get
connectivity via ethernet (in the application called
"Chooser" select the icon called "LaserWriter") to your
printer. Try printing from a classic application such as
SimpleText to your 630)

If so, then it's worth going all the way with this printer.
Can't remember off-hand how i did it last time.

it is very high quality at 600dpi even if it dates from 1993.
yikes.

It will be 10BaseT so printing will always be slow, unless
you print only text.
