external HDD format

My son has an iBook with installed firewire port. He has bought an external Firewire HDD for video capture. The external disk appears to have been formatted for Windows (shows each of three partitions as MSDos partitions named, respectively, "No_name", "No_name1", and "No_name2". In his video editing tutorial, it suggests avoiding, partition/HDD drive names that are similar. I'm not familiar with the Mac OSX O/S so would be grateful for help with the following: (a) I guess the HDD should be reformatted to a Mac format, I assume Mac OS extended?; (b) since the extenal drive will not be used for an operating system, I assume there is no reason why the disk should not be reformatted as a single partition? (c) Do I need to ensure the OS9 drivers option is ticked? Thanks

Format, yes. OS extended, yes. One partition is fine. If you ever want the option to plug the drive into a mac with OS 9 then I would surely enable the drivers.
