External CD-RW drive

Have purchased an external CD-RW drive. In system profiler under USB it is recognised. though no icon is displayed on the desktop and therefore can not use th drive. How can i resolve this issue

see if it show up in finder if it doesn't dp the following boot up the computer holding down the apple key+ option Key+O+F then type reset-nvram press return then type reset-all press reutrn
if that doesnot work then install the software that came with the burner if that still does not work run Disk 1st ad for the os disk email me if you have any quistions b101875@aol.com or just let me know if this works
