Emergency Boot Disk for a Mac I want to create an emergency boot disk for a Mac Quarta 610 using System Software 7.1 I know how to do this on an IMB PC, but I don’t know that much about Mac.
I use Norton Utils to back-up the drive and I want to be able to restore my backup if the hard drive dies. Therefore, I think I should have a boot diskette and a copy of Norton’s restore on diskette. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Otherwise you can make them from your install CD. Look on it and you will find "Disk Images" (.img). Use Apples 'DiskCopy'; Mount the 'image' you want; choose the 'make floppy' option found (somewhere) in the top menu; follow the prompts.

I have booted a Performa 630 from a floppy I made by simply copying a stripped-down system folder to. I then selected that floppy as my startup disk from the Startup Disk Control Panel. This of course became virtually impossible after about System 7.6 since the System Folder had grown to be much too large--even "stripped-down."
