Ok here goes, A file created in quark, saved as a pdf file will not open on some PC desktops when attached as an email and sent. I have noticed that the file can be associated as a apple double to be opened on any PC. or it can be done as unix, or windows. I was told by the creative Dept that they are not using the apple double because of problems associated with it. They are using the unix association to attach it to the email. I am not MAc savoy, but I thought the apple double is the default and should be used. If it cannot be used then they need to make sure that the appropriate association to the file is adequate with the operating system being used on the PC. could some one please help me out. Or is there some other reason why the file can be opened by some users and not others, all are using the same acrobate reader software.

I dont know what an 'apple double' is, but it sounds like the acrobat distiller settings you are using may be at fault. You ARE using distiller aren't you? You say a quark file was 'SAVED' as a PDF, so I must ask, because you really can't SAVE a file like that.

Sorry if I seem not to know how a qurk file is saved, dont work with Mac's at all. I do know that When you send a file via email, (such as a PDF). You can manually set up a way for the file to be associated with the type of operating system the machine is using to open the PDF. machine meaning PC's other then MAC. these settings are listed as apple double(default to be used by any type of PC) Windows and the other is Uniex. My concern is that when they select Uniex that if that machine isn't using that OS it may not open the file. As far as acrobat goes I dont think the issue is within the software, I could be wrong though. I truly want to be sure on the way they are selecting the settings for the files first most, Thanks

The specific for Windows is Mime/Base64. You have various options for encoding, for example in Outlook Express, open a new message, open the window "attachments". At the bottom you can see in italics the different options you have.
