Hello -- our office recently had DSL
installed. Ever since, we can't send
attachments via e-mail on either Outlook
Express or AOL. I get error message
-3155 on OE (which I believe is an Open
Transport error??). AOL just quits. The
DSL providers (Mac unfriendly) have no
answers.

We can send e-mails without
attachments and we can receive e-mails
with attachments. Any suggestions as to
what is amiss? (I am not technolgically
adept so instructions assuming only a
basic/intermediate knowledge would be
much appreciated!)

Rather than look for incomprehensible solutions
with no pictures or dialogue here, I would strongly
advise that your boss hire a free-lance Mac
troubleshooter (they tend to charge less than
Apple) - and get your entire Mac network looked
at.

Mac OS 8.6 is getting pretty long in the tooth now,
and you might need to upgrade to a higher OS -
eg: Mac OS 9.2.2 - and it would be far less hassle
for you if someone just came in and did it.

So open that big old yellow book and let your
fingers do the walking.

You don't say what DSL provider you have, but I saw this on Macintouch recently:

The whole report is probably worth a read.

Christine,

Outlook Express error messages are the next best
thing to hyroglyphics.

The only trace I can find is that error -3155 has
something to do with the Router connecting your
office computers to DSL.

I think that the Router settings need to be altered.

It is also quite possibly - as you say - an Open
Transport error - though it may be a conglomerate
of problems also involving the Network itself.

This may sound really stupid, but try Trashing the
"Apple CD Player" and all Extensions and
Preferences relating to the Apple CD Player. Then
restart your Mac and see if error -3155 appears
again in Outlook Express.

If (even momentarilly) it does not appear again,
you have a clue ... or one piece of the puzzle.

That's the best I can do for now. See advice in
Response Number 1 again.

cheers

Thanks very much for your assistance,
clockwork & pickle. We're using Covad
and the problem manifests in both
Outlook Express and AOL.

Unfortunately, hiring a tech person is just
too civilized for my office. ;) I'll forward your
suggestions to my boss and hope he can
figure it out, because now even e-mails
with more than a couple of sentences are
not going through. So much for the
exciting world of DSL!

I'll post here if we discover the solution.

Thanks again --
Christine
